Remember when my fanart of Panty and Stocking got stolen by Otaku USA and I was never credited for it?

No I guess you wouldn’t. Because I NEVER GOT THE CREDIT.

Way back in 2011 I was told by a watcher on DeviantArt that they had seen my art in a magazine. I was really confused as I never remember authorizing any of my art being used. I ended up finding the issue of Otaku USA where they used my art of Panty and Stocking (which I had drawn before the show even aired) in their February of 2011 issue. I was incredibly surprised that anyone would mistake my FANART for OFFICIAL ART. Needless to say I tried to get in contact with the editors at the magazine as this was a HUGE oversight.

I only ever received ONE email from someone. I don’t remember who I spoke to because (unfortunately) the email account I used to contact them was hacked a while back and never got back into the account. But I can tell you what was said to me. When I contacted someone on the team I told them how it was my art and how I wanted credit for it. I asked nicely. I told them if they credited me there would be no hard feelings. I got a response back saying that one of their designers must have TAKEN THE IMAGE FROM GOOGLE AND USED IT.

First of all…you’re letting your designers RIP IMAGES FROM GOOGLE WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM THE ORIGINAL SOURCE? Now, I have an associates degree in Graphic Design and one of the HUGE rules was that we never EVER rip images from Google because that shit will come back to bite us in the ass and we could get potentially sued. If you Google Panty and Stocking you WILL actually see my fanart if you scroll down a bit. But what made me laugh even harder was that what ever dumb ass used this didn’t even take my signature out. Yeah, way to show that this was stolen. (I don’t think you tried at all.)

So they told me OK we will credit you in the next issue. I was okay with that. Next issue comes out. I go to the bookstore to MAKE SURE the credit was there. I spent half an hour looking for a credit and didn’t see a thing. Now maybe I looked over it because, let’s face it, I can stare at the fridge for ten minutes and not see the Ketchup that’s right in front of my face. But after this I went right home and emailed them again…and then again…and one more time. I NEVER RECEIVED AN ANSWER FROM ANYONE. They completely ignored me.

I guess they thought that because I was just some kid they could sweep me under the rug because I didn’t have the money to take legal action. And they were right. This issue was never resolved and my art went published in a magazine without any credit to me what so ever and it still bothers me to this day. I guess I’m just a little hurt because I always thought my art was never good enough. I’ve never been a popular artist and I’m still not that well known but for that one moment I could have had some recognition for MY art. MY ART that was apparently good enough to be mistaken for official art. It would have made me happy and it would have made me feel confident. Instead I feel cheated and used.

Maybe I feel like if I write this someone will get mad. Someone will raise hell about it and maybe this time…SOMEONE will care. Who knows. I just felt like ranting. Take from this information what you will but know this…your art is NEVER safe. Not from shitty tracers, not from popular artists, and not from big business.

I still love homestuck but homestuck and I aren’t on our honeymoon anymore so even though I’m not kissing homestuck and yelling about how much I love it out of our hotel window doesn’t mean I don’t love homestuck anymore

it’s just a quiet love where we sit down and have dinner together and calmly talk about our days and we don’t need to be in each other’s faces 24/7 to know that our love is still a thing u kno
